Genesis released the G70 this past March, as the third member of their new premium sedan family joining the G80 and G90. The compact sporty whip boasts two turbocharged engine options and advanced dynamic driving features.
The 2019 Genesis G70 debuted at the New York International Auto Show, and proved a worthy competitor in the premium sedan market, specifically going head-to-head with the Audi A4 the Lexus IS F Sport and the new Infiniti Q50.
The low-slung rear-wheel drive whip has a sleek profile with 19-inch wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport tires. Linear LED daytime running lights and the familiar crest grille set off the long aluminum hood. A high beltline gives it a coupe-like visual. Eight exterior colors will be available including Havana Red, Mallorca Blue and Siberian Ice.
The G70’s swagged-out interior features quilted Nappa leather upholstery set off with brushed aluminum and stainless steel. A 15-speaker Lexicon high-fidelity audio system is available with QuantumLogic.
Under the hood is where the real magic happens as the Genesis G70 offers three refined powertrain options with available 6 speed manual transmission and all-wheel drive. To fine-tune its dynamic drivetrain the G70 was tested in crazy terrains like Death Valley in Sweden and Nurburgring Nordschleife in Germany.
The G70 2.0T features a 2 liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder with 252 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The impressive G70 3.3T offers a 3.3 liter turbocharged V6 with 365 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque. The Genesis G70 Sport will offer its own powertrain later this year. An 8-speed sport-tuned automatic trans with paddle shifters is standard with each engine. A 6-speed manual transmission is offered with the rear-wheel drive G70 2.0T.
Five selectable drive modes including a ‘custom’ mode will adjust powertrain response, steering, torque distribution and suspension. And both G70 models are fitted with MacPherson multi-link front and multi-link rear suspension ensuring optimal handling and responsiveness. The G70 3.0T models features variable gear ratio steering for agile directional response. And the 3.0T Sport adds electronically controlled suspension. Front 4-piston and rear 2-piston Brembo brakes are available featuring 13.8 inch rotors.
Like the other models in the Genesis sedan lineup, G70 offers an unparalleled amount of standard active- and passive-safety equipment. Forward Collision Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Collision Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, and Driver Attention Warning compose the Genesis Active Safety Control suite of safety and convenience technologies. Genesis hopes that their robust airbag system with its advanced suite of safety technology will help it achieve the highest crash and safety test ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
All Genesis vehicles including the G70, offer an exclusive, no-cost, consumer-focused service program that elevates the luxury vehicle ownership experience. From valet service appointments that can be scheduled using the Genesis mobile app, to complimentary maintenance and Genesis Connected Services, the Genesis Experience delivers owners with market-leading convenience and time savings.
Every Genesis model offers Genesis Connected Services to provide advanced telematics with seamless connectivity directly into the vehicle, with technology like Destination Search powered by Voice, Car Finder, Enhanced Roadside Assistance, and Stolen Vehicle Recovery. With a complimentary three-year subscription, Genesis Connected Services further enhances peace of mind for drivers and passengers, with SOS Emergency & Automatic Collision Notification.
When combining the power of Genesis Connected Services and an Amazon Alexa-enabled device, the G70 offers remote voice control, performing tasks including Remote Door Lock/Unlock and Remote Start with a specified interior temperature. Genesis Connected Services can also easily be accessed from the controls located on the vehicle’s center stack, the rearview mirror, the internet through the MyGenesisUSA.com website or via the smartphone app exclusive to Genesis owners, now also available on smartwatches.
Genesis Intelligent Assistant adds another degree of seamless connectivity, sending notifications and recommendations ahead of the drive, delivering POI navigation directly to G70, and providing a vehicle health report on demand.
