Two engine and two transmission options are available. For the base Mustang, a 2.3 liter Ecoboost 4 cylinder replaces the former V6 and offers 310 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. It’s a good move Ford offering a more efficient engine option while utilizing transient overboost innovations to encourage more aggressive acceleration.
The Mustang GT features the familiar 5.0 liter V8 engine now with dual fuel high pressure direct injection and low pressure port fuel injection, a refinement that aids efficiency and high torque at low rpms. New technology helps the 5.0 V8 achieve 460 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, while maintaining an impressive combined EPA.
A sleeker design, high speed aerodynamic components and a more resilient efficient engine lineup gives the Mustang a well-balance performance that’s still beastly.
An updated manual and automatic transmission is available with the Mustang and the 5.0 GT. After a complete overhaul the Mustang’s manual transmission now includes twin-disc clutch and dual-mass flywheel to enhance power and deliver seamless shifting.

Paddle shifters are available as are three drive modes – Normal, Sport and Track to fine tune throttle and steering. An all-new Drag Strip mode gives the Mustang straight-line acceleration and track capability.
MagneRide damping is a new feature for Mustang as part of the Performance Package and uses sensors and stats like steering, speed, brake pressure, torque distribution, drive mode and even outside temperature to adjust suspension. And all models are fitted with new shock absorbers and a new cross-axis joint in the rear suspension for increased flexibility and stiffness. New safety technology includes the Pre Collison Assist, Land Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist and Driver Alert System.
