Bentley forges a new path with their luxurious EXP 12 Speed 6e fully electric drop-top coupe.
Bentley’s new EV concept possesses the best of three worlds with the refinements of Bentley, a clean electric powertrain and grand touring capabilities. Renowned Bentley features are combined with new high performance technology, rapid inductive charging and state-of-the-art on-board concierge services.
The EXP 12 Speed 6e is meant to entice customers and get feedback for future production models. Bentley’s mission is for customers to benefit from high speed inductive charging while providing a range sufficient for grand touring. An electric Bentley would be able to drive between London and Paris or Milan and Monaco on a single charge with the on-board experience enhanced for both driver and passenger.
When rapid inductive charging is not available, EXP 12 Speed 6e can be connected to a main AC power supply via the auxiliary charging point concealed behind the rear number plate.
Bentley’s EV stunner has an alluring design language reminiscent of the EXP 10 Speed 6 Concept from a few years prior- especially its 3D mesh grille with smoke finish and copper highlights. When the car is running the ‘6e’ logo illuminates in a vibrant white.
The exterior design is inspired by the shape of aircraft fuselages. The sleek convertible coupe conveys both power with its big grille and muscular frame and big wheel arches, and grace with is white paint job against LED lighting and chrome accents. When combined with an athletic stance that includes a short front overhang, long bonnet, low grille and wide rear, the concept stunts on the Tesla Model S.
Twin bonnet scoops cool to the battery and powertrain. And sleek wing mirrors are actually embedded cameras.
The cabin of Bentley’s EXP 12 Speed 6e makes me drool. The luxurious cockpit features the most supple quilted leather seating – deep burgundy in color with contrast stitching, wood accents and carbon fiber trim. Exquisite copper elements trim the gear selector, Bentley Dynamic Drive dial and the door veneer panels.
The center console is a solid piece of elegantly curved glass encompassing a high-definition OLED touch screen. All of the car’s principle controls are accessible from the screen including navigation, entertainment and climate control.
Handmade, cut-glass sections on the steering wheel contain the controls for media, communications, navigation and vehicle settings.
There are also two buttons featured at the top of the cut -away steering wheel, one offering an instant performance boost and the other the ability to limit speed.
The passenger has their own control panel on the front fascia with access to social media, email and entertainment. The car’s intelligent infotainment system is the central brain to access many real world services using connected car Apps.
The luxury brand’s electric car strategy includes the introduction of PHEV models across the Bentley model range over the next few years, starting with the Bentayga in 2018.
