Jaguar’s new F-Pace mid-size SUV is impressive inside and out to say the least. The super-lux interior matched with a premium high-powered engine make this whip unlike many of its closest competitors. The all new F-Pace is engineered to offer the agility, responsiveness and refinement of a contemporary first-class luxury SUV together with the exceptional dynamics and versatility of a performance car.
The whip brings the CX-17 Concept to fruition with design influences from the F-Type like the LED rear tail light design, engine variants, Configurable Dynamics and the ZF 8 speed automatic transmission. And the mid-SUV is an all-road vehicle with an efficient powerful V6 and tons of cutting-edge performance and dynamic technology. Though many of the best features are add-ons, the 5-seater is a game-changer with a $42k starting price.
Daring Sexy Big-Body Design
The bold new 2017 Jaguar F-Pace has a sexy design, sedan-like with Lightweight Aluminum Architecture. The sleek whip has a long wheelbase, 113 inches with taut lines and muscular bodysides. Its nose extends the full-length of the aluminum hood to the big grille. The sleek headlights are available with adaptive full LED technology with LED daytime running lights with a “J” blade design. The slender LED fog lights available on the R-Sport trim level were developed in-house and use TV screen optics and light tubes. LED tail lights are standard.
The whip is styled with 18 inch wheels designed to reduce aerodynamic drag, and 22 inch wheels with lightweight forged aluminum. Jaguar’s design cues extend to the silhouette of the F-Pace with a sleek roofline as well as a short front and rear overhang that reflect the whips agile response. The new SUV also has dual exhausts and chrome trimmed side intakes for added efficiency.
The new F-Pace is engineered with Jaguar’s Lightweight Aluminum Architecture technology – the same as the XE and XF. The F-Pace features the largest amount of the Jaguar-developed RC5754 aluminum alloy. One-third of the vehicle features this lightweight material which comprises up to 75% recycled material. The tailgate, magnesium cross-beam and front and front-end carrier contribute to its outstanding driving dynamics. Aluminum is also used with suspension components. Advanced high-strength steel in the rear floor contributes to torsial stiffness comparable to the XF.
Supercharged Efficient V6 Powertrain
The new Jaguar F-Pace will be available with a choice between a 3 liter V6 engine with 340 horsepower and one with 380 horsepower, the same equipped on the F-Type. Later in 2016, a 4 cylinder Ingenium diesel engine with 180 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque will be offered. These all-aluminum engines have immediate throttle response, linear power delivery and a unique engine growl. A supercharger, variable valve timing and direct injection helps the engine generate a high torque output and attack the road. And both V6 engines boasts a top speed of 155 mph.
The 380 horsepower V6 is available exclusively on the F-Pace S model and has a top speed of 155 mph. Both V6 engines are matched to the same 8 speed transmission that’s in Jaguar’s XE, XF, and XJ and F-Type. The 8 speed was developed with ZF to deliver exceptional shift quality and efficiency. The F-Pace also has steering wheel mounted paddle shifters.
The F-Pace is equipped with torque-on-demand all-wheel drive. Under normal conditions, the engine torque maintains a rear-wheel drive character while minimizing downgrade. Jaguar’s Intelligent Drive Dynamics (IDD) is designed to ensure that the precise amount of torque is transferred to the front axle. The IDD system features a compact transfer case with a multi-plate wet clutch and chain drive to the front axle.
Replacing a winter/snow mode is the Adaptive Surface Response technology (AdSR.) It optimizes the throttle, transmission, and DSC system in accordance with terrain. It also features three modes, low, medium, and high for max traction.
Torque Vectoring by Braking is an innovative technology first debuted in the F-Type. For max agility, the Torque Vectoring by Braking can apply finely metered braking to the inner wheels to mitigate understeer for tight cornering. Aerodynamics have been developed to give a front:rear lift balance closer to that of a sedan than an SUV, contributing to improved feel and stability during high speed cruising.
Adaptive Dynamics provides continuously variable damping monitoring body movement 100 times a second and wheel movement 500 times a second. Configurable Dynamics offers a dynamic or normal modes on the driver’s touchscreen for throttle mapping, transmission, steering feel, and adaptive damping.
The F-Pace also features double wishbone front suspension, and integral link rear suspension with aluminum front knuckles and forged aluminum upper links. Electric Power Assisted Steering benefits from the addition of closed-loop control and variable steering ratio.

Other cool dynamic driving features include the All Surface Progress Control (ASPC) that acts as a low speed cruise control. Along with finely controlling throttle the ASPC uses the brakes in opposition to the throttle so that from a standstill, only very low engine torque is applied to the driven wheels. The result is smooth controlled progress with little or no wheel spin. Standard Low Traction Launch can change the throttle map to a progressively low torque response enabling the driving to pull off smoothly.
Safety features include the blind spot monitor, backup camera with 3D view, park assist, Adaptive Cruise Control with Que Assist, reverse traffic detection. Also available is the lane departure warning, lane keeping assist and the Driver Condition Monitoring System which recognizes driver fatigue and warns them to pull over. The Traffic Sign Recognition is available and displays speed limit, reduced limits when towing and cross references the GPS data.
Autonomous Emergency Braking, now offered with a pedestrian detection function, will brake the F-Pace fully if the camera system detects a potential collision.
Premium Tech-Advanced Cabin
The 2017 Jaguar F-Pace boasts a fresh luxury interior leather-trimmed and chocked full of new technology for entertainment and comfort. The five-seater features a spacious interior that utilizes premium materials, craftsmanship, and attention to detail expected of a Jaguar. Front seats are 14-way adjustable. Leather sport seats, and a number of materials with finishes like Mesh Aluminum and Satin Grey veneers are available.
The driver’s instrument panel, similar to the one in the XF and XE feature two large, deeply hooded analogue dials and TFT display, or optional 12.3 inch virtual instrument cluster offering a choice of 4 visual themes and full-screen navigation. Ambient lighting has 10 color options.
Also standard inside the F-Pace is a 12V outlet, 40:20:40 split rear seats with through-loading, and reversible floor with one carpeted side and one rubberized floor. Up to three USV ports in the front and two more 12V or two more rear ports are available.
Very cool is the new laser head-up display, the optional feature that can project speed, navigation, speed limits, and warnings onto the driver’s windshield.
The F-Pace is equipped with Jaguar’s standard InControl Touch infotainment system that features an 8 inch touchcscreeen or 10 inch touch screen with the InControl Touch Pro system. The InControl Touch system is an intuitive interface for navigation, settings, and entertainment.
The 10 inch touchscreen with the Touch Pro system looks just like a tablet. A Commute Mode will learn the driver’s daily drive and offer alternative routes to avoid traffic. Approach Mode adds a 360 degree interactive view of the destination in a split screen with the map display when the driver is approximately 656 feet away from their destination. It can even direct the driver to available parking spots.
Also part of the InControl Touch Pro system is a 17 speaker Meridian surround sound system that works with Gracenote. The F-Pace can also be a WiFi hotspot hosting up to 8 devices. Jaguar InControl Remote allows android and iPhone users to remotely control functions like deactivating the alarm, a/c, and locking or unlocking doors.
If the F-Pace is involved in a collision, InControl Protect will automatically notify the emergency services and provide GPS location.
Activity Key, a Jaguar first is a wristband that allows drivers to lock their keys in the vehicle, and to later unlock the vehicle by holding the band close to the J of the Jaguar lettering on the tailgate.
The all new F-Pace range will consists of the base model, F-Pace Premium, F-Pace Prestige, F-Pace R-Sport, F-Pace S, and F-Pace First Edition. The powertrain range, 180 hp 2.0l Ingenium diesel, 340 hp and 380 hp V6 gas variants will be priced from $40,990, $42,390, and $56,700 respectively.
