The best-selling SUV doesn’t rest on its laurels. It hits hard for 2016 with a sportier design and loads of new tech under the hood and inside the whip. Plus new active safety features take the RX to a new level of accident prevention.
The RX represents three out of ten vehicles ever sold by Lexus. The 2016 RX builds on that trend with a completely new luxury interior to match its fresh new chiseled body. The new forth-generation RX also boasts exceptional performance and safety technologies that include the innovative Lexus Safety System.
Takayuki Katsuda, Chief Engineer of the new RX said, “Our ambition has been to make a bold and completely new statement in this segment while building on and staying true to the pioneering values of the previous generations.”
Sharp Sporty New Look
The 2016 RX seems longer and wider. It has a 108 inch wheelbase and is 192 inches long. All new sheet metal makes a powerful visual statement. A completely new front end is highlighted by a chromed out spindle grille, aggressive front bumper, and LED headlights. The 2016 RX also has LED daytime running lights and tail lights.
Blacked out C-Pillars give the illusion of a flowing roofline, and muscular front fender flares aid aerodynamics and add sporty flair. Also stylish are the standard 19 inch wheels and integrated dual exhaust pipes. Twenty inch wheels are available and customizable with body color matching inserts.
The RX F-Sport adds even more athletic design cues with F-Sport emblems and F-mesh on the grille and the lower center of the rear bumper. The F-Sport also offers 20 inch alloy wheels with graphite finish and exclusive colors.
New Tech-Advanced Interior
The interior of the RX leaps forward with optional Yamaha laser cut ornamentation, a Heads Up Display, a 12.3 inch monitor, and a rear seat entertainment system. Heated 60/40 rear seats are available. A new panoramic sunroof and leather shifter add a touch of elevated style.
Enhanced- Refined Performance Tech
The RX’s redesigned 6 cylinder is pretty impressive. It’s a 3.5 liter with 300 horsepower. The direct injection V6 is matched to an 8 speed automatic transmission. The RX 400h hybrid has an Atkinson-cycle 3.5 liter V6 matched to an electric motor generator, for a combined output of 300 horsepower.
The RX F-Sport’s performance on the road has been enhanced by an active stabilizer system whose cutting-edge technology helps keep the vehicle’s body planted during cornering. Performance technology works in tandem with safety technology for a smooth confident ride at high speeds, and bending corners in the city.
The RX’s fully independent suspension system, which consists of MacPherson struts up front and a double wishbone rear suspension system has been tuned and reinforced to enhance handling while keeping ride quality smooth. Available Adaptive Variable Suspension electronically monitors and adapts shock absorbers, damping and steering to help ensure optimal handling in any driving condition. The system is also designed to produce less body lean through corners. Along with Adaptive Variable Suspension, the chassis has been fortified to provide enhanced straight-line stability and control. In addition, the RX’s body has been strengthened with added stiffness enhancing its handling response while reducing engine and road noise in the cabin.
Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management is available on select models and helps maintain vehicle control by adjustment driving functions. All-Weather Drive is offered as well as Michelin Premier Tires with EverGrip technology.
Refinements to the Lexus Safety System integrate several existing active safety features. The Pre Collision System will detect and avoid serious front crashes by applying the brakes. The Lane Departure Alert will sound if the RX drifts from its lane and Lane Keeping Assist will gently push the RX back in its lane. Automatic High Beam and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control are especially helpful on long trips. Other safety technology includes the Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Adaptive High Beam, and the Panoramic View Monitor.
