Jaguar claps back at haters with the release of the new F-Type Coupe. The F-Type will be on sale in the US this spring with the 65k F-Type, the 77k S Coupe, and the 99k R Coupe. The F-Type is turning heads with a decked out auto show display in Chicago, LA, and Detroit. With its sporty exterior, thrilling powertrain, and sexy cockpit, this CX16 incarnation will compete well in the luxury sport segment.
The F-Type Coupe is designed with athletic aerodynamic “heart lines,” that enhance the rigid aluminum frame. Heart lines running from wheel to door, to rear to roof create a unique muscular character that not only adds flair but aids airflow. The F-Type features LED headlights and tail lamps, and a hidden rear spoiler that rises at speeds above 70 mph to reduce lift. The spoiler auto-lowers at speeds reduced below 50 mph. Front vanes beneath the shark gills and side sill extensions aid stability at high speeds. An optional Black Pack adds glossed black trim. Also optional is a chrome air spitter, side vents, door mirror covers, and a chrome engine cover. The F-Type is available with an aluminum or sexy glass roof and power tailgate. Twenty inch wheels are standard on all models.
The F-Type V6 Coupe is the base model with a 3 liter supercharged V6 engine with electronically limited slip differential. The V6 boasts 340 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque and a top speed of 161 mph. All models are mated to a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission with “Quickshift.” Sport suspension is standard along with the Performance Braking System, sports exhaust, and a Dynamic Mode. The more luxurious F-Type S Coupe features a 380 horsepower V6 engine with 0-60 time of 4.8 seconds. The S Coupe also has mechanical limited slip differential along with Dynamic Launch, Active Dynamics, the High Performance Braking System, and Dynamic Mode.
The F-Type R Coupe is the race-inspired luxury whip designed for thrilling performance. The R Coupe has a V8 engine, spray-guided direct injection, dual independent variable valve timing, and the Electronic Active Differential to optimize the 502 lb-ft of torque delivered to each wheel. Using an electric motor to operate a multi-plate clutch, the Electronic Active Differential analyzes inputs continuously to immediately direct the right amount of torque to the wheels. The Torque Vectoring system allows for more precise cornering; applying the best amount of braking force analyzed to prevent oversteering. Dynamic Mode enables faster gear changes and sharper throttle response with the Torque Vectoring system. Precise handling is achieved with Adaptive Dynamics that continuously monitors driving conditions and driver input to adjust damper rates 500 times per second.
The F-Type R also features a Super Performance Braking system that doesn’t just look cool with red calipers, but it’s cooled with additional airflow directed through the underbody. Carbon Ceramic Matrix Brakes are available in the R, V8, and S models that offer weight reduction, reduced wear and tear, and consistent performance.
Inside the F-Type R is a sporty lux leather cockpit with a flat-bottom leather-wrapped steering wheel and racing seats both with the “R” logo embossed. The jet black interior has the option of Ivory, Camel, or Red contrast leather seat with Ivory, Red, and Firesand contrast stitching. Suede cloth and leather headliners are optional. The R Coupe also features an 8-inch touch screen and a Meridian Sound System.
