2014 Audi R8
Both the 2014 Audi R8 and the 2013 Audi RS 5 Cabriolet have been on a successful Auto Show tour since debuting in Detroit. As both vehicles go on sale this spring, anticipation and orders are building. While there’s some buzz around the swaggerfic new R8 line I wasn’t sure if I’d appreciate the soft top RS 5 Cabriolet as much as a hard top coupe.
The R8 line is performance and sexy embodied in 3 vehicles: the R8 V8, the R8 V10, and the R8 V10 Plus. All three models have a new 7-speed S tronic transmission that adds agility and comfort. The R8 V8 model has a 4.2 liter 430hp V8 engine with 186 on the dash. The R8 V8 has the standard hexagonal Single frame grille and LED headlights along with new turn signals on the rear lights. The R8 V10 has a 5.2 liter V10 engine with a top speed of 195mph. With 525hp and 391lb-ft of torque the R8 V10 goes from 0-60 in 3.4 seconds. The high performer, the R8 V10 Plus has a top speed of 196mph and 550 hp. A carbon fiber spitter along with a small fuel tank and ceramic brakes make the R8 V10 Plus 100lbs lighter than the R8 V10 and go from 0-60 in 3.3 seconds. The R8 V10 Plus is available only as a coupe.
2013 RS 5 Cabriolet
With all the sexy vehicles Audi has out I’m guessing a soft top coupe is another example of how Audi strives to create a truly unique car for every aesthetic. “Coming off momentum we’ve built with the launch of the all new Audi S models, the new Audi RS 5 Cabriolet further invigorates the next chapter of our Audi performance models,” explained Audi of America President, Scott Keogh. Audi has been a top dog in the premium car game for 3+ years now because they’re always creating something fresh to fill a void-or creating a void to fill.
The great thing about the RS 5 Cabriolet is that it’s fast, lighter, and fuel efficient. The Cabriolet has a V8 FSI direct injected 4.2 liter engine. With 450hp and 317lb-ft of torque the RS 5 Cabriolet jets from 0-60 in 4.9 seconds.
The sleek new design of the RS 5 Cabriolet saves energy and enhances performance. LED light strips illuminate the headlights and taillights. Two tailpipes set in a honeycomb screen insert along with a higher diffuser and matte carbon spoiler lip round out some of the efficient designs. The interior of the RS 5 Cabriolet has leather/Alcantra or Napa leather with heat reducing pigments. For added space, the rear seatbacks can be folded. The soft top can be closed at speeds of 30mph and below and takes about 17 seconds to close and 15 seconds to open. When the top is down, it only takes up 2.12 cu ft of the 13.42 trunk volume. The RS 5 Cabriolet has 16mpg city and 22mpg highway for an 18mpg EPA.
